
Guest Lecture on Mediation: Dialogue as a Way to Resolve Conflicts

On March 31, a guest lecture on the topic «Mediation in Kazakhstan» was held for second-year students of the educational program 6B03103 – Psychology. The lecture was delivered by Talshin Mukatovna Italiyeva, Chief Expert and Coordinator for Mediation at the Republican State Institution “Kogamdyk Kelisim” under the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The lecture was organized by Saulet Urazbekovna Abenova, PhD, Acting Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology and instructor of the course “Psychology of Conflict and Mediation.” The event was also attended by Bakhyt Serikovna Tussupbekova, PhD, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Psychology and a certified mediator in the field of education.
During the lecture, key aspects of mediation as a modern and effective tool for conflict resolution were discussed. Special attention was given to the role of the mediator as a neutral intermediary who helps the parties establish constructive dialogue and reach mutually acceptable solutions.
The speaker also presented an overview of the development of the mediation institution in Kazakhstan, starting from the adoption of the Law “On Mediation” in 2011 to current initiatives aimed at expanding mediation practices in various areas of society. Practical examples, including those from the educational environment, were provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of mediation in resolving conflicts without escalation or negative consequences.
The lecture sparked strong interest among students and not only contributed to the development of their understanding of dialogue culture and constructive communication skills, but also significantly increased their interest in the academic discipline.
