
Kazakhstani Universities Discuss Modernization of Journalism Education













On April 3, 2026, an offsite meeting of the Project Management Group under the Educational and Methodological Association (EMA) of the Republican Academic and Methodological Council (RAMC) for the “Journalism and Information” training field was held at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana. The event took place in the Constitutional Hall of the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The meeting was moderated by A.Beisenbay, Deputy Chair of the EMA, Member of the Board, and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, who emphasized the importance of the issues under discussion. According to him, the initiatives presented aim to elevate the quality of journalism education to a new level.
The meeting brought together representatives of leading universities across the country to discuss pressing issues in the field. The presentations addressed key topics such as improving the quality of educational programs, integrating innovative technologies into the teaching process, enhancing teaching and learning resources, and strengthening collaboration with employers.
In particular, M. Shyndaliyeva focused on the analysis of educational program quality, while K. Myssayeva highlighted modern teaching methods and digital opportunities. M. Negizbayeva addressed the need to strengthen the academic and methodological base, B. Bayeshova presented proposals for enhancing cooperation with employers, and K. Karymbayeva emphasized the importance of modernizing journalism education in regional universities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of the Section, N. Kuantayev, in his report addressed several important issues, including the granting of official approval (endorsement) to teaching materials, the allocation of state-funded grants for the “Public Relations” educational programs, and the approval of test specifications for the comprehensive entrance examination in “Document Studies.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants exchanged views and adopted a set of concrete decisions aimed at further improving the quality of education in the field of journalism and information.
