
Scientific School of Kazakh Linguistics: Tradition, Research, Results

At the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, a presentation of new scientific and educational-methodological works by the scholars of the Department of Kazakh Linguistics was held under the title “Scientific School of Kazakh Linguistics: Tradition, Research, Results.” The event took place in the reading hall of the scientific library located in Academic and Laboratory Building No. 5 of the university. With the assistance of the library staff, an exhibition of scientific and methodological works by the department’s faculty members was also organized.
During the presentation, 1 monograph, 2 dictionaries, and 4 textbooks published by the department’s scholars were introduced. The monograph “The Khoton Language,” edited by Professor Zh.A. Zhakypov, was written based on project research and materials from field scientific expeditions. It analyzes the linguo-ethnological, linguo-cultural, linguo-folkloristic, lexical-phraseological, phonetic, and grammatical characteristics of the extinct Khoton language in Mongolia. In addition, a Khoton–Kazakh–Turkish–Mongolian–Russian–English dictionary was compiled. The research results generated significant interest among scholars. Doctor of Philology, Professor Gulgasha Sagidolda noted that the monograph represents an important contribution not only to Kazakh linguistics but also to global Turkology, and expressed gratitude to the research team.
Professor of the department, Doctor of Philology Bekzhan Abdualiuly presented the cultural and educational dictionary “Vital Names”. Reflecting on the history of naming traditions in Kazakh culture, he shared insights into naming trends and their impact on historical and cultural consciousness.
The textbook “Modern Kazakh Language,” authored by Gulbarshyn Syzdykova, Lyazzat Espekova, Karlygash Sarekenova, and Saltanat Shokabayeva, was published with the approval of the Republican Educational and Methodological Council. Intended for philology students in higher education institutions, the textbook covers key areas of modern Kazakh linguistics, including phonetics, lexicology, word formation, and morphology.
Associate Professor Gulnar Sarseke introduced her teaching manual “Speech Culture” to the academic audience. The book is distinguished by its comprehensive content and unique structure. It is based on the principles of language use proposed by Akhmet Baitursynuly—purity, clarity, precision, expressiveness, and correctness of speech—and offers a comprehensive analysis of euphony, accuracy, and richness of language.
The textbook “Modern Kazakh Language,” co-authored by Ardak Beisenbay and Zhamila Omirbekova, aims to develop professional competencies of linguists, promote a scientific understanding of the nature of the Kazakh language, and enhance applied skills in teaching and research. Modern educational technologies are widely used to deepen students’ analytical thinking.
The textbook “Linguistic Analysis of Literary Text”, authored by Zhamila Omirbekova, presents methods and techniques for systematizing and analyzing texts from a linguistic perspective. It helps students master comprehensive linguistic analysis of literary texts and reinforce their knowledge in disciplines such as syntax and stylistics.
Scholars from Nazarbayev University, Turan University, the A. Kusainov Eurasian Humanities Institute, and the Sh. Shayakhmetov “Til Qazyna” Center in Astana took part in the event and gave high praise to the presented works. Doctor of Philology, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences Sherubay Kurmanbayuly emphasized the applied nature of the works in integrating science and practice. Professor Sarkyt Alizhan of Nazarbayev University highlighted the modern structure of the textbooks.
