ENU now has Library Back Office

On the eve of Librarians’ Day – October 24, the Otyrar Scientific Library opened up Library Back Office. ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov participated in the solemn event and congratulated the specialists on the holiday.

The purpose of the event is to enhance the image of the librarian and honor librarian professionals. 

Rector noted that in the modern world, the book influences a person’s outlook and becomes their spiritual friend. 

“Last year, by decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, October 24 was declared as Librarian’s Day. Due to this holiday the scientific library “Otyrar” is opening a library Back Office. I am glad that this day is celebrated on a par with the Republic Day. Since the library is the place where intellectuals gather, I believe that the back office will also become such a place. If the library transmits folk spiritual values from generation to generation, then the librarian is a person who introduces these values,” Rector Yerlan Sydykov said.

The event continued in the format of a meeting within the framework of the “Booken club”.

The purpose of the club is to establish a culture of reading among students, to conduct scientific, literary, cultural events for the comprehensive development of students. During the meeting, students asked questions.

A member of the club, Zhanbolat Marat, said that he was researching Kazakh signs, a 1st-year student of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Akbota Sabyrkhan, noted the importance of the library for the individual. 

Alumnus of the Faculty of Philology, head of the “Booken club” Maira Dildakhan dwelt on the work of the club.

“Despite the fact that the club is two years old, meetings with famous scientists, writers, cultural figures are held here. There were discussions of books by Tolen Abdyk, D.Isabekov “Kargyn”, K. Zholdybayuly “Kemel Adam”, D. Orwell “1984”, – she said.

ENU Scientific Library is ENU’s main information center and plays a pivotal role in ensuring the educational and scientific process.  

“The main work of the scientific library is to support education programs and research works and provide printed and electronic resources.

 The library consists of 8 departments: department of cataloging and systematization of documents; department of reader service; information and bibliographic department; rare books and manuscripts department; research support department; department of organization and storage of electronic resources; scientific and methodological department. Readers are served by 2 subscriptions, 12 reading rooms for 800 students and electronic halls equipped with 150 computers,” Bakytzhan Orazaliyev, Director of ENU scientific library “Otyrar” shared.

The library’s book fund has 1,498,282 printed publications, of which 547,817 are in Kazakh. To increase the number of Kazakh literature, the “Valuable Gift” campaign is held annually among university scientists, as a result of which the fund has been enriched with 500 books.

“The library’s projects are the readers’ clubs “Gumilyov’s World”, “Okytushy enbegi okyrmanga oi salsa”, “Booken club”. The purpose of the clubs is to popularize scientists and their works and develop desire to read,” Zhanar Bekaydarkyzy, deputy director of the library said. 

It should be noted that ENU Rector on the eve of the holiday awarded the university staff, among whom were the library specialists.
