
The 18th Republican Subject Olympiad in the "Publishing" Educational Program has concluded















The XVIII Republican Subject Olympiad in the “Publishing Studies” educational program was held at a high level at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, organized by the Higher School of Journalism and Social Sciences at the Department of Journalism and Media Arts.
The participating teams arrived well-prepared. Even their uniforms were specially tailored with refined taste.
During the olympiad rounds, future publishers competed not only in theoretical knowledge but also in practical and production tasks requiring professional publishing skills, which they completed in a creative manner.
Team presentations were delivered through video formats, and books were promoted using posters.
In the “Storyboard” stage, book narratives were presented in comic form. All teams completed their tasks diligently and brought printed materials produced specifically for the competition.
Future publishers demonstrated creative approaches to developing marketing and management in the publishing industry, modernizing the sector, and turning books into marketable products.
The test section assessed knowledge in “Modern Publishing Studies,” “Bibliology,” and “Modern Printing Technologies.”
In the “Best Publisher-Editor” stage, participants edited texts in the “Text Management” section and wrote book annotations in the “Annotation” section.
In the “Bibliographic Description and Standards” stage, they formatted title pages according to official standards. This stage was supervised by the jury chair, Shyngys Begimtaev.
In the “Book in a Bag” stage, participants identified a hidden book through visual clues and creatively presented its content. This stage was led by A. Eleshova, a specialist from the ENU publishing house.
The jury consisted of publishing experts, editors, and journalists.

Competition results:
1st place — “Kokseñirler” team, supervised by senior lecturer A. Kalibekkyzy (Al-Farabi KazNU);
2nd place — “Parasat” team, supervised by PhD G. Shauyenova (ENU);
2nd place — “Aldaspan” team, supervised by PhD A. Tilepbergen (Al-Farabi KazNU);
3rd place — “Qalamger” team, supervised by PhD S. Alimbekova (ENU).
Winners received valuable prizes from the main sponsor “Täp-tätti” confectionery chain and Sinopec company, including tablets, smart watches, and power banks, as well as diplomas awarded on behalf of ENU Chairman-Rector E.B. Sydykov.
All participants, prize winners, and supervisors received books and gifts supported by the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Chief Editors’ Club, and publishing houses “Foliant,” “Kausar,” and “ENU.” The “Eurasian University” newspaper was also distributed.
Director of the Higher School of Journalism and Social Sciences, N. Kuantayuly, expressed gratitude to the participants and presented letters of appreciation from the ENU leadership.
After the awards ceremony, a gala concert was organized for the participants by university performers. Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Arts, A. Shurentaev, warmly saw off the participating teams.
The “Publishing Studies” olympiad showcased strong potential in the era of new media, and students expressed their gratitude for the event.
