Student Olympiad on the education program "Tourism" was held at ENU

Tourism Department of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University organized the XVIII Republican Student Subject Olympiad in the “Tourism” educational program as part of the university’s 30th anniversary celebration. The event brought together students from 20 leading universities in Kazakhstan who had successfully passed internal university selection rounds.

The main goal of the event was to improve the quality of training for future tourism industry professionals, develop their professional and research competencies, and reveal students’ creative potential.

The Olympiad program consisted of two stages. During the first stage - the project stage - teams presented projects on sustainable innovations in urban tourism in Kazakhstan. Participants demonstrated a high level of preparation, creativity, and practical relevance of their proposed solutions. The projects were evaluated by a competent jury composed of representatives from industry, academia, and the international academic community.

Results of the project stage:

1st place – Team from “Turan-Astana” University. Academic supervisors: E.Narbayeva, M. Karazhanova.

2nd place - Team from the E.A. Buketov Karaganda National Research University (academic supervisor: N. Khasenkhanov).

3rd place - Team from the K. Kulazhanov Kazakh University of Technology and Business (academic supervisors: Zh. Akimov, B. Rakhimbekov).

The second day was dedicated to the practical stage - a tourism multi-event competition - where participants demonstrated teamwork skills, physical fitness, and the ability to act in non-standard situations.

Results of the captains’ competition:

1st place – Farkhat Tursunbekov (“Turan-Astana” University). Academic supervisors: E. Narbayeva, M. Karazhanova.

2nd place – Zhannur Kapsalyamova (L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University). Academic supervisors: A. Marat, D. Salauatova, L. Mutaliyeva.

3rd place – Aslan Umirtai (International University of Tourism and Hospitality). Academic supervisor: N. Abdiqadir.

Results of the team distance (Stage II):

1st place – “FESTINA” team of L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. Academic supervisors: A. Marat, D. Salauatova, L. Mutaliyeva.

2nd place – “Turan-Astana” team. Academic supervisors: E. Narbayeva, M.Karazhanova.

3rd place – “ESIL” team of Esil University. Academic supervisors: Zh. Sadykov, E. Amangeldy.

Overall team standings across all stages:

2nd place – E. A. Buketov Karaganda National Research University (academic supervisor: N. Khasenkhanov).

Participants and faculty highly appreciated the organization of the event, noting the transparency of judging and the objectivity of evaluation. The Olympiad was also highlighted as an effective platform for developing professional connections and inter-university collaboration.

The event became an important venue for exchanging experience between students and faculty, contributing to the formation of a professional community in the tourism sector.

The organizers express sincere gratitude to all participants, academic supervisors, jury members, and partners for their active involvement and contribution to the successful implementation of the event. Special thanks are extended to the Akimat of Astana, the Akimat of the Sarayshyq district, as well as the sponsor - an alumnus of the “Tourism” department, Omar Ulan - for their support.

It was noted that the results of the captains’ competition did not affect the overall standings. At the same time, based on its results, the host university for the next Olympiad was determined: in the 2026-2027 academic year, the event will be hosted by “Turan-Astana” University.
