
Human Rights in the Context of the Updated Constitution Discussed at ENU







At the initiative of ENU Ombudsperson Neli Shapekova, a regular session of the School of Student Ombudspersons was held. The event brought together active students from leading universities in Astana, as well as students of ENU.
The meeting focused on the topical issue: “Rights and Freedoms of Citizens in the New Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.” The speakers included Iliyas Sansyzbay, Chief Consultant of the Legal Education and Media Relations Department of the National Center for Human Rights, and Lyazzat Sabenova, Expert of the International Cooperation Department of the same center.
The discussion covered key aspects of the modern legal agenda, including the role of the individual in public policy, the priority of fundamental rights and freedoms, and their consolidation in the Constitution as a core value of the state. Particular attention was paid to legal education for youth and the development of an active civic position.
It was emphasized that for the international community, cooperation with the Ombudsperson institution of Kazakhstan remains an important channel for obtaining objective information about the state of human rights in the country and the development of democratic institutions.
