Students of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography Completed Practical Training at the Ishim River Flood Protection Facility

Students of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University visited a hydraulic engineering facility designed to protect Astana from flooding caused by the Ishim River as part of their practical training.
During the visit, the students became familiar with the operation of the protective dam, reservoir, and floodwater regulation system. Specialists explained the principles of hydraulic engineering structures, methods of water level monitoring, and flood prevention measures.
The participants also examined the facility’s schematic model, water measuring devices, and the public warning system used in case of potential flood hazards. Particular attention was paid to water level monitoring, шлюз regulation, and the technical maintenance of hydraulic structures.
The practical training enabled students to connect their theoretical knowledge in hydrology, water resource management, and natural hazard geography with real-world practice. The visit provided a deeper understanding of the importance of hydraulic systems in ensuring the safety of urban and surrounding areas.
