
The 30-year milestone: ENU has entered a new stage of development

The L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted celebrations dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the university. As part of the anniversary program, the opening of the Lu Ban International Workshop and a solemn meeting of the Scientific Council were organized with the participation of government and public figures, foreign partners, scientists and graduates. In addition, the festive atmosphere was complemented by cultural events that brought together students, teachers and guests of the university.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Lu Ban Workshop was attended by Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Sydykov, Rector of The L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, as well as Han Chunlin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Lu Ban Workshop is a joint Kazakh-Chinese project to create innovative educational centers for the training of highly qualified technical personnel, implemented as part of the instructions of the Head of State.
The project of the Lu Ban EN workshop was implemented jointly with the Tianjin Vocational Institute and is aimed at developing technical and IT education, as well as training in-demand specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and digital solutions. The Lu Ban Workshop has become a new platform for the international exchange of experience and the development of the university's innovation ecosystem.
During the visit to the workshop, the guests were introduced to the laboratories of automated production lines, high-performance computing, unmanned systems, machine vision and robotics. ENU students and IT specialists presented projects in the field of artificial intelligence, including a knowledge platform based on large language models, a navigation system for the blind, image mining technologies, Industrial AI and other developments.
The solemn meeting of the Scientific Council continued with a theatrical prologue, a video presentation and a festive flash mob. ENU Rector Yerlan Sydykov congratulated the university staff, scientists and teachers on the anniversary and noted that the university had reached the 30-year milestone with significant achievements.
"The main wealth of our university is its staff. We are immensely grateful to the veterans and teachers who stood at the origins of the university and made a huge contribution to its formation and development. Your experience and dedication will always be an example to us. I sincerely thank the faculty, staff, students and young teachers who annually contribute to the development of the university," Rector said.
Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek read out congratulations from President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In the congratulatory address, it was noted that the university is developing together with independent Kazakhstan and over the years has become one of the leading educational centers in the country.
"I cordially congratulate you on the 30th anniversary of the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University! Over the years, ENU has become a leading university that has built cooperation with universities in Europe, Asia, and the United States, research centers, diplomatic missions, and international educational organizations," the President's address of greetings reads.
A video address from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva was also shown during the ceremony. In her address, she stressed that The L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University is one of the country’s leading scientific and educational centers, which is developing together with independent Kazakhstan and making a significant contribution to the formation of the intellectual potential of the state.
"The 30th anniversary is not only a tribute to the past, but also an important milestone that opens a confident path to the future. I am sure that the Eurasian National University will continue to reach new heights by training specialists working for the benefit of the country's development," the video address said.
Congratulatory addresses of the Presidents of Russia, Belarus and Azerbaijan were read out during the solemn meeting. Representatives of the Senate and Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the diplomatic corps, foreign partners, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Supreme Court, heads of universities and graduates of ENU congratulated the university staff.
"Today is a significant day for Russian science and higher education. The University has become one of the leading universities not only in Central Asia, but also internationally. For 30 years, ENU has managed to create a modern educational environment that trains specialists capable of responding to the challenges of the time. All the achievements of the university are the result of the systematic and dedicated work of the team," Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education, said.
The celebration of the university's 30th anniversary continued with cultural events on the campus, bringing together students, teachers, graduates and guests of the university. A pilaf festival, a festive concert, national games, exhibition and interactive venues, as well as a gathering of ENU graduates were organized for the participants. The festive program included creative performances by Kazakhstani performers, sports events and folk festivals reflecting the multinational culture and student spirit of the university.
Today, The L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University is one of the leading research universities in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. More than 27,000 students study at the university, and about 3,000 teachers and staff provide the educational and scientific process. The University implements over 200 educational programs, actively develops international cooperation, digital technologies and scientific research in the field of artificial intelligence, engineering, nuclear physics, biotechnology and other areas. According to the results of the QS World University Rankings 2026, ENU ranked 317th among the world's leading universities.
