Students of the 6B05209 – Geography Educational Program Visited the Astana Weather Station

On May 28, 2026, third-year students of the 6B05209 – Geography educational program of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University visited the Astana weather station as part of their practical training.
During the excursion, the students became familiar with the basic principles and methods of meteorological observations. They observed the operation of equipment used to measure air temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, wind direction and speed, as well as precipitation. In particular, the use of thermometers, barometers, hygrometers, anemometers, wind vanes, and rain gauges was explained.
The students also received information about the importance of round-the-clock observations at the weather station, data collection and processing methods, and synoptic analysis. During the practical training, they learned about the weather forecasting process, identification of climatic features, and the role of meteorological information in agriculture, transport, construction, and emergency prevention.
The excursion helped strengthen the students’ theoretical knowledge and develop professional skills in meteorology, climatology, and natural hazard geography.
