The event «The Dark Side of History, Living Memory: What Has Changed in the Study of the Tragedy of the 20th Century»

On May 28, 2026, the Department of Sociology and the Department of History of Kazakhstan of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University held the event "The Dark Side of History, Living Memory: What Has Changed in the Study of the Tragedy of the 20th Century". The Department of History of Kazakhstan was represented by Dr. Musgaliyeva Araylym Sabitovna, Professor, PhD, Lecturer Konyrbayev Nurzhan Userkhanovich, and Senior Lecturer Abdurazakov Madiyar Furkatovich.

During the event, the following topics were discussed: «The Social Construction of Post-Memory in Contemporary Kazakhstan», «The Discourse of Industrialization in the Practice of Regional Museums», «The Politics of Memory in Kazakhstan: Institutional Strategies and Priorities in Narratives» and others.

The event was particularly influenced by the contributions of Smagambet Bayan Zhuzikbayevna, a Candidate of Sociology and Associate Professor, and Musagaliyeva Araylym Sabitovna, a Doctor of History.
