On June 2, 2026, third-year students of the 6B05209 – Geography educational program of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University visited the Kanysh Satpayev Canal as part of their practical training.
During the excursion, the students learned about the history of the canal, its importance for water supply in Central Kazakhstan, and its operational features. Specialists provided detailed information on hydraulic structures, water resource management systems, and the activities of the dispatching service responsible for round-the-clock monitoring of water delivery.
The participants also visited a pumping station, where they became familiar with the design of pumping equipment, operating principles, and industrial safety requirements. Facility staff demonstrated the main components of the station and explained the operation and maintenance procedures.
In addition, the students learned about biological methods used to control excessive aquatic vegetation growth in the canal and became acquainted with the activities of the biological reclamation facility.
The practical training enhanced students’ understanding of the spatial organization of water management facilities, water resource use and management, and the role of hydraulic infrastructure in regional development. The visit to the Kanysh Satpayev Canal provided valuable insight into the importance of large-scale water management systems for sustainable water supply and socio-economic development in Kazakhstan.
