ENU discussed the importance of state symbols in strengthening national identity

The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted a round table "State Symbols and the Constitution: the Continuity of the Rule of Law and the National Spirit", dedicated to the Day of State Symbols of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The event brought together representatives of government agencies, the scientific community, expert circles, public figures and youth. The participants discussed the importance of state symbols in strengthening national identity, issues of their popularization, as well as their role in shaping the patriotic consciousness of citizens.

The meeting was moderated by Chairman of the Committee of Archives, Documentation and Book Business of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aizada Kurmanova. She said that the day before she visited the author of the State Emblem of Kazakhstan, the famous architect and public figure Zhandarbek Malibekov, congratulating him on his professional holiday. It is symbolic that the discussion took place at the architectural scientific and practical center "Oitek", which bears his name.

ENU Rector, academician Yerlan Sydykov, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. He stressed that state symbols are an essential part of the national identity and reflect the historical path of the country, its cultural heritage and aspirations for the future.

"The emblem, the flag and the anthem embody the history of our people, their culture and their desire for the future. Therefore, the respect of young people for state symbols and a deep understanding of their meaning are an important part of patriotic education. I am confident that today’s round table, held at the Oitek Architectural Scientific and Practical center named after the author of the emblem, Zhandarbek Malibekov, will contribute to the popularization of national values and strengthening the principles of the rule of law," Yerlan Sydykov said.

Special attention was paid during the round table to the issues of preserving historical memory and strengthening civic awareness. Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Zada Dukenbayeva presented a report on the importance of independence symbols in shaping national consciousness.

Aizada Kurmanova noted that raising the status of state symbols and expanding educational work remain important areas of government policy. According to her, the systematic popularization of the coat of arms, flag and anthem contributes to the strengthening of patriotic values and civic responsibility.

Guliskhan Nakhbayeva, Director of the Youth Research Center, PhD, continued the topic of patriotic education of young people. Expert Aydin Rysbekuly focused on the development of national heraldry, and the chief expert of the Kazakhstan Institute of Public Development, Ayim Tilepbergen, shared her opinion on modern social processes related to the perception of state symbols.

At the end of the event, ENU Vice-Rector for Social and Infrastructural Development Lyazzat Tolegenkyzy and Acting Director of the Center for Heraldic Studies Adilkhair Myrzakhanov noted the importance of state symbols in shaping the rule of law, preserving national identity and strengthening patriotic education. The participants also discussed the issues on the agenda and exchanged views.

Following the results of the round table, the importance of continuing work on the wide popularization of state symbols and raising their status in society was emphasized.
