
Philologists from 11 Countries Gathered at an International Conference at ENU

L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted participants of the XIV International Scientific and Practical Conference “Text in the System of Teaching Russian Language and Literature.” The Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics organized the large-scale academic forum in cooperation with the Humanities Institute of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the L.N. Tolstoy Tula State Pedagogical University.
The academic session, held in a blended (online and offline) format, brought together more than 150 researchers. The participants represented a wide geographic range: colleagues from Russia, China, Poland, Slovakia, Belarus, as well as Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan joined Kazakh scholars. The ceremonial opening and the plenary session set a high bar for the ensuing discussions. At the plenary session, greetings were delivered by S. Duysengazy, Dean of the Faculty of Philology; E. Zhuravleva, Head of the Department; N. Chicherina, Director of the Higher School of Linguistics and Pedagogy at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University; and N. Krasovskaya, Director of the Institute of Russian as a Foreign Language at the L. N. Tolstoy Tula State Pedagogical University.
A key part of the plenary session consisted of presentations by leading scholars. The talks by Sh. Zharkynbekova, N. Fedyaeva, N. Krasovskaya, Yu. Kositcina, E. Vidanov, E. Smoliy, O.Shiryaeva-Shiring, P. Povalko, V.Telyakova and E. Zhuravleva provoked an animated response and developed into a substantive academic discussion. All speakers received letters of appreciation from the university.
The personal presence of Russian colleagues added a special atmosphere of professional exchange. Linguists arrived in Astana from the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia – PhD (Philology) E. Smoliy and PhD (Philology) P.Povalko; from Omsk State Pedagogical University – Doctor of Philology N.Fedyaeva, PhD (Philology) E.Vidanov, and lecturer A. Sarsembaeva; and from the Kuzbass Humanitarian and Pedagogical Institute of Kemerovo State University – PhD (Philology) Yu.Kositcina and PhD (Philology) V.Telyakova. Over the two days the conference proceeded actively across four thematic sections. Researchers discussed current problems in text linguistics, innovative teaching technologies, intertextuality and intermediality in literary discourse. Special attention was paid to the digital transformation of philology, where new scientific paradigms are emerging at the intersection of text theory, forensic linguistics, and artificial intelligence. E. Zhuravleva, moderated the sections. Yu.Kositcina, Zh. Dzhambaeva, E. Smoliy, G. Ayupova, P. Povalko, B. Galieva, and E.Vidanov. Participants presented the results of their research and engaged in productive discussions.
The forum concluded with a summary of results and the announcement of a collected volume of scholarly articles that will be indexed in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). For the foreign guests who attended the conference in person, a rich cultural programme was organised. Colleagues learned about the university's history, visited the L.N. Gumilyov Museum and the Museum of Writing, and admired Astana’s architectural landmarks.
