
ENU Student Asylym Zhakia Becomes World Champion in Shooting
Asylym Zhakiya, a second-year student at the Higher School of Education of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, is an athlete of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a representative of pistol shooting, and a member of the Kazakhstan National Shooting Team.
At the 2026 ISSF Junior World Championship, held in Suhl, Germany, Asylym delivered an outstanding performance and won the gold medal in the girls’ individual 25 m Standard Pistol event, scoring 554 points. Representing the city of Astana, Asylym Zhakiya became the Junior World Champion.
The ISSF World Championship took place in Suhl, Germany, from 16 to 26 June 2026, bringing together 778 athletes from 63 countries.
Kazakhstan was represented by 26 of its best shooters: 13 athletes competed in shotgun events and 13 athletes in rifle and pistol shooting disciplines.
World Championship medals were contested in both individual and team events.
At the conclusion of the competition, Team Kazakhstan ranked 6th in the overall medal standings with 2 gold and 2 silver medals.
This victory became one of the most significant gold medals for the Kazakhstan national team. Asylym Zhakiya proudly represented her country on the international stage, bringing great honor and glory to Kazakhstan through her outstanding achievement.
