ENU Scholar Presents Research at Major International Forum on Cold Regions Infrastructure in Japan

Professor of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Academician of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Doctor of Technical Sciences Askar Zhusupbekov delivered a presentation at the 14th International Symposium on Cold Regions Development (ISCORD), held in Sapporo, Japan.

In his presentation, Professor Zhusupbekov shared the results of his research on pile installation technology under winter conditions using chemical antifreeze additives for soil foundations. His report attracted considerable interest from international experts working in the fields of construction and infrastructure development in harsh climatic environments.

The symposium brought together more than 250 representatives from academia, education, and the construction industry from 20 countries. The international event served as a platform for discussing advanced engineering solutions, innovative technologies, and future directions for infrastructure development in cold regions.

As part of the symposium program, participants took part in a technical tour of the laboratories of the Civil Engineering Research Institute for Cold Region, the Hokkaido Regional Development Bureau responsible for transportation infrastructure management, and a center dedicated to the use of snow as an energy resource. The tour provided participants with an opportunity to explore Japan's cutting-edge technologies and practical solutions for construction and infrastructure operation in low-temperature environments.

An exhibition held during the symposium featured the latest scientific and technological achievements of leading Japanese companies in the field of cold-region construction. The cultural program introduced international guests to Japanese traditions through a gala dinner featuring a kimono presentation and regional seafood cuisine from Hokkaido.

The 15th ISCORD International Symposium will be held in Oulu, Finland, in June 2029, where experts will once again discuss key challenges and innovations related to infrastructure development in northern and cold regions around the world.
