
ENU's Commercialization Project Results Presented at the ISCORD-2026 International Symposium in Japan

As part of the implementation of the commercialization project for scientific developments DP25997309, "Development of a Geoinformation Database – Artificial Intelligence System for Optimizing Foundations and Bases in Construction in Kazakhstan", funded by the Science Fund JSC, Professor Askar Zhussupbekov of the Department of Civil Engineering at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Academician of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Doctor of Technical Sciences, took part in the 14th International Symposium on Cold Region Development (ISCORD 2026), held from July 7–11, 2026, in Sapporo, Japan.
ISCORD is one of the leading international scientific platforms dedicated to the construction, operation, and development of engineering infrastructure in cold climate conditions. The symposium brought together more than 250 scientists, engineers, and specialists from 20 countries, representing universities, research institutes, government organizations, and major construction companies.
At the invitation of the organizing committee, Professor Askar Zhussupbekov delivered a plenary lecture titled "Pile Installation Technology in Winter Conditions Using Chemical Anti-Freeze Additives in Soil Foundations". The lecture presented the results of many years of scientific research on construction under complex engineering-geological and climatic conditions, as well as modern technologies for pile foundation installation at sub-zero temperatures.
Particular attention during the symposium was given to the introduction of digital technologies into engineering-geological research and geotechnical design. Participants of the international forum were presented with the results of the implementation of the DP25997309 commercialization project, "Development of a Geoinformation Database – Artificial Intelligence System for Optimizing Foundations and Bases in Construction in Kazakhstan". The project aims to create an intelligent geoinformation platform using artificial intelligence technologies to process engineering-geological data, assess soil conditions, and optimize the design of building and structure foundations.
Participation in the symposium made it possible to present the achievements of Kazakhstani scientists in the field of geotechnical construction to the international scientific community, discuss prospects for introducing digital technologies into engineering surveys, and establish new scientific contacts for the development of international cooperation.
As part of the scientific program, on July 10, 2026, the symposium's organizing committee arranged a technical tour for participants. The delegation visited the laboratories of the Cold Region Construction Research Institute, the Hokkaido Regional Bureau for Transport Infrastructure Control, and the Center for the Use of Snow as an Energy Source, where modern scientific developments and engineering solutions aimed at ensuring the reliability of transport and construction infrastructure in harsh climate conditions were presented.
During the symposium, a specialized exhibition was organized, at which leading Japanese companies demonstrated the latest scientific and technical developments and innovative technologies in construction, geotechnics, and the operation of infrastructure facilities in cold regions.
The international forum concluded with a formal gala dinner, during which participants were introduced to Japan's cultural traditions, the national kimono costume, and the gastronomic heritage of Hokkaido Island.
Following the symposium, it was announced that the 15th International Symposium on Cold Region Development (ISCORD) will be held in June 2029 in Oulu, Finland.
The participation of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in ISCORD-2026 served as further confirmation of the high international standing of domestic research and contributed to promoting the results of the commercialization project — implemented with the financial support of the Science Fund JSC — on the world scientific stage.
