Research work of ENU scientists in the archive

In accordance with the plan of the research program "Analysis of the Living Standards of the Population in the Context of Political Changes in 1918–1920: The Case of East Kazakhstan," a scientific trip to the Russian State Military Archive was organized from July 1 to 10, 2026.

As part of the study, materials from various archival collections were examined. The analysis of these documents allowed researchers to investigate the activities of White Guard military formations and corps, the specifics of the military-political situation, popular and peasant uprisings, the operations of the Main Staff units, and the conduct of mobilization campaigns. Furthermore, it enabled the examination of the interaction system between military command bodies based on official correspondence, as well as the legislative and administrative activities of the Provisional Siberian Government.

The materials from these archival collections constitute a crucial source base for the research. They will be utilized to analyze the issue at hand, thereby broadening the documentary foundation of the work and ensuring the reliability of the derived conclusions.

The scientific trip was undertaken by the Project Leader, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science G.S. Abdrakhmanova, and the Chief Researcher of the project, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science T.S. Kalenova.

The primary objective of the trip was to research the administrative and socio-economic factors that impacted the living standards of the East Kazakhstan population during the political transformations of 1918–1920, based on a comprehensive study of primary archival sources.
