
ENU Professor Askar Zhussupbekov Delivers Keynote Lecture at International Symposium on Geomechanics in India

Academician of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Professor at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Askar Zhussupbekov, participated as an invited keynote lecturer in the XII International Symposium on Field Monitoring in Geomechanics, held in Indore, India.
The symposium brought together around 300 specialists from 32 countries, including scientists, engineers, researchers, and representatives of the international geotechnical community. The event also featured a large-scale exhibition showcasing the latest developments and technologies from Indian and international companies in the fields of geotechnical engineering and construction.
The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests and representatives of leading international organizations. Welcome addresses were delivered by the Chief Guest, Shri Tulsi Ram Silawat, Minister of Water Resources of the Government of Madhya Pradesh; Dr. Neelima Satyam, Convenor of the Symposium; Dr. Anil Joseph, Vice-President for Asia of ISSMGE; Dr. Andrew Ridley, Chair of the ISSMGE Technical Committee TC 220; as well as other distinguished officials and recognized experts in geotechnical engineering.
In his keynote lecture, Professor Askar Zhussupbekov presented research findings and practical experience in vibration monitoring during pile driving and in assessing its impact on buildings and structures under complex ground conditions in Northern Kazakhstan.
One of the highlights of the symposium was a special technical session on biogeotechnics, organized by Professor Askar Zhussupbekov together with PhD Dr. Ankit Garg, a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Construction of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
The session brought together scientists and specialists from Hong Kong, India, Thailand, China, and Kazakhstan. Participants discussed current trends in the development of biogeotechnics, the prospects for applying biotechnological methods in geotechnical construction, and recent findings from international research.
The symposium was organized by the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS, Indore Chapter), IIT Indore, and the Technical Committee TC 220 of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) – Field Monitoring in Geomechanics.
The next, XIII International Symposium on Field Monitoring in Geomechanics, will be held in Naples, Italy, in 2030.
