From August 10 to 13, 2026, the 90th IFLA WLIC 2026 World Library and Information Congress, one of the largest international professional events in the library and information field, was held in Busan, Republic of Korea.
The Congress was attended by Bakhytzhan Orazaliev, Director of the Scientific Library of ENU, and Arailym Tileubek, Manager of the Scientometrics Division of the Research Department.
The theme of the 2026 Congress was “Libraries Powering Transformation.” The program of the event focused on issues of societal transformation, the changing role of libraries in people’s lives, and the development of the modern information environment. Particular attention was paid to digitalization, artificial intelligence, innovation, inclusivity, and the sustainable development of libraries.
As part of the Congress, representatives of ENU participated in professional sessions, workshops, discussions, and events dedicated to the exchange of international experience. Participants also visited an international exhibition featuring modern technologies, digital solutions, and innovative products for the library sector.
An important part of the program was familiarization with the library system of the Republic of Korea. Busan Metropolitan Library and Silla University Library were visited, where participants learned about modern library spaces, digital services, and innovative approaches to user services. The active implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in the activities of Korean libraries was of particular interest.
Participation in IFLA WLIC 2026 provided an important platform for professional networking, the exchange of experience, and the establishment of new international contacts. During the Congress, professional ties were strengthened with representatives of the Korean Library Association and the IFLA Educational Programs Committee.
The knowledge gained, practical experience, and international professional contacts will contribute to the further development of library services, the digitalization of library processes, and the improvement of support for the research activities of the Scientific Library of ENU.
