Orientation Meeting Held for First-Year Master’s and Doctoral Students at the Department of Physical and Economic Geography

On 1 September 2026, an orientation meeting for first-year Master’s and doctoral students was held at the Department of Physical and Economic Geography, Institute of Natural Sciences, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The meeting took place in the conference hall, Room 333, in the CISI Building.

This year, the Department of Physical and Economic Geography admitted 44 Master’s students and 8 doctoral students, marking a record number of newly admitted first-year postgraduate students for the Department. Following the ceremonial assembly dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year, the meeting was organised to introduce students to key aspects of their studies and research activities.

The main purpose of the meeting was to familiarise newly admitted Master’s and doctoral students with the Department, its faculty members, the organisation of the educational process, the specific features of postgraduate studies, and the main areas of academic and research work.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Aigul Yeginbayeva, Head of the Department of Physical and Economic Geography, Associate Professor, PhD. She congratulated the students on their admission and the beginning of a new stage in their academic and research journey. Nurgul Ramazanova, Associate Professor, PhD, also addressed the students and wished them a successful adaptation to their new academic environment, productive studies and research, professional growth, and new achievements.

Sabina Toksanbayeva, Adviser for Postgraduate Education at the Department of Physical and Economic Geography, Acting Associate Professor, PhD, provided detailed explanations of the main rules and requirements governing Master’s and doctoral studies. Particular attention was given to the organisation of the educational process, academic and research work, and the key requirements students are expected to follow during their studies.

During the meeting, first-year postgraduate students received important information on organisational and academic matters related to the beginning of their studies. They asked questions and became familiar with the main directions of their future academic and research work. Such meetings support the adaptation of newly admitted students to the Department, help them integrate into the academic environment, and clarify their professional development pathways.
