
ENU Students Took Part in the International Summer School on Green Energy in the Canary Islands

Students from L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, representing both undergraduate and graduate programmes, participated in the international summer school Green Energy Management (GEM) Silkway – Canary Islands Edition, held at the University of La Laguna in Tenerife, Spain.
The group of six students from IT, Transport and Energy, and Economics fields was led by ENU Professor-Practitioner Gulnara Merzadinova, who also delivered a lecture titled "Energy and Environmental Problems of Global Development: Experience of Developed Countries and CIS Countries". Her presentation focused on the development of renewable energy sources (solar, wind, geothermal energy, biomass, and small hydropower) and analyzed the pace of energy transition and state regulation of renewables in Kazakhstan, CIS countries, and Europe.
Participation in the GEM-SILKWAY 2026 project provided ENU students with an outstanding opportunity to deepen their professional expertise, engage with European decarbonization practices, and exchange knowledge with international peers.
The summer school was held for the third consecutive year within the framework of the Silkway international consortium. It was organized by GEM program partners - the University of Milano-Bicocca (Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca) with the support of ENI. The school brought together students, young researchers, and lecturers from various countries.
The primary goal of the school was to expand knowledge in green energy, energy systems management, and the transition to clean technologies. The program focused on exploring both practical and theoretical aspects of sustainable development:
Energy Policy: Comparing approaches and regulations across European and Central Asian countries.
Innovations and AI: Applying artificial intelligence to improve energy efficiency, alongside the WEFE Nexus concept (the interlinkage of water, energy, food, and ecosystems).
Sustainable Mobility: Examining the social and economic dimensions of the green transition.
Practical Insights: Visiting operational renewable energy facilities in Tenerife and exploring green infrastructure.
Leading professors and international experts from Italy, Spain, and Portugal delivered lectures and conducted dynamic scientific discussions.
