A meeting of silver volunteers with students took place at ENU within the framework of the «Dialogue of Generations» project
The Institute of Continuing Education, in cooperation with the Department of Political Science of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, held a meeting of Silver Volunteers with students as part of the «Dialogue of Generations» project.
The project brought together representatives of different generations around common values such as volunteering, active citizenship, mutual respect, and the exchange of knowledge and experience.
The meeting was attended by Silver Volunteers Lazzat Uteulova, Kүlash Moldakhmetova, Galymzhan Amanbayev, Gulmira Zholbaskanova, Altyn Momynkulova, Gulzhamilya Konakbaeva and Irina Ivanova. and Irina Ivanova. They shared their impressions and experience of participating in volunteer activities during the World Nomad Games and the Future Games held in Astana. The guests spoke about the diverse areas of work carried out by Silver Volunteers and the opportunities that volunteering provides for older adults to remain socially active and contribute to society.
The student Ravil Yakuda, who is also involved in volunteering, spoke about the activities of young volunteers at ENU and their participation in university and city events. The meeting became a genuine dialogue between generations, allowing participants to exchange experiences, opinions, and ideas.
An important part of the event was the introduction of first-year students to university life and ENU traditions. Gulnar Askeeva, Professor of the Department of Political Science, congratulated everyone on with beginning of the new academic year. First-year students were presented with memorable gifts.
One of the highlights of the event was a model walking performance by graduates of the ENU Silver University course «Fundamentals of Model Walking for Older Women». The participants demonstrated proper posture, confident walking, and grace while presenting elements of traditional national clothing.
The student Albina Yerzhanova shared her impressions:
«I really liked seeing women of elegant age walking so beautifully in high heels and presenting national clothing. We can see elements of our national style in everyday clothes as well. We will also take note of the elements of proper walking. It was very interesting.»
For the students, the meeting was an opportunity to learn more about the activities of the Silver University and the implementation of the «Dialogue of Generations» project.
The student Ratmir Yensegenov noted that the event was informative and useful:
«From the presentation by Raikhan Baimagambetova, a staff member of the Institute of Continuing Education, I learned about the Silver University and the implementation of the «Dialogue of Generations» project for the first time. We were shown a video about the courses, and we saw our teachers who conduct classes at the Silver University. Now we know that there are students at ENU just like us, only from an older generation.»
The implementation of the «Dialogue of Generations» project demonstrates the importance of strengthening interaction between young people and the older generation. Older participants share their life experience, professional knowledge, and practical skills with young people, while students help the older generation master modern technologies, use digital devices, mobile applications, and online services.
Such interaction creates opportunities for mutual learning, support, and communication. It also contributes to strengthening intergenerational continuity and developing a culture of respect and cooperation within the university community.
The students’ engagement with ENU’s Silver Volunteers will continue. The «Dialogue of Generations» project opens up new opportunities for joint meetings, initiatives, and social and volunteer projects.
