270 Students Begin Studies at The Eurasian School of Science and Technology in China

In the new academic year, 270 undergraduate students began their studies at The Eurasian School of Science and Technology, established jointly by The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and Nanning Normal University in the People’s Republic of China. Students are enrolled in three educational programs — Inorganic Chemistry, Chemistry of Organic Substances and Polymers, and Biology — delivered at the Chinese university.
As part of a visit to the People’s Republic of China, a delegation from The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, headed by Acting Vice Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization Abzal Taltenov, held a meeting with the leadership of Nanning Normal University. The parties discussed the further development of joint educational projects and the training of specialists in high-demand areas of the natural sciences.
Welcoming the Kazakh delegation, Zhang Peng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanning Normal University, noted that the establishment of the first joint educational institution between China and Kazakhstan represents a significant outcome of the Belt and Road Initiative and the deepening of scientific and educational cooperation with Central Asia.
“The Eurasian School of Science and Technology deeply integrates the best educational resources of both universities, implements the core curriculum system aligned with international ASIIN accreditation standards, and provides a high-quality international model of specialist training. The School aims to educate highly qualified and versatile engineering and technology specialists with a strong knowledge base, broad horizons, innovative thinking, and practical skills,” Zhang Peng said.
At the opening ceremony of the Eurasian School of Science and Technology, Abzal Taltenov, ENU’s Acting Vice Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization, emphasized that developing strategic partnerships with leading universities abroad is one of the priorities of the university’s international activities.
“A prominent example of this approach is the cooperation between The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and Nanning Normal University. The joint efforts of the two universities have taken practical shape in the establishment of the Eurasian School of Science and Technology.
Today, we can confidently say that this project is one of the most promising international educational initiatives not only for The L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, but also for Kazakhstan as a whole. It clearly demonstrates that a Kazakhstani university can not only participate in international initiatives, but also act as a full-fledged partner in establishing new educational institutions, implementing joint educational programs, and building sustainable academic ties between Kazakhstan and China,” A. Taltenov said.
The Eurasian School of Science and Technology was opened in April this year following its official accreditation by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The program operates under a dual-degree model, allowing graduates to receive degrees from both The L.N. Gumilyov ENU and Nanning Normal University upon completion of their studies.
The educational process has been designed in accordance with the educational standards of The L.N. Gumilyov ENU. Specialists from the university’s Institute of Natural Sciences participated in developing the curricula, the structure of the educational programs, and quality requirements for student training.
According to Zharas Berdenov, Director of the Institute of Natural Sciences at The L.N. Gumilyov ENU, the Eurasian School of Science and Technology is intended to become much more than simply a platform for implementing three educational programs.
“The next important stage of our partnership should be the expansion of joint research activities. Looking ahead, we see opportunities to establish joint research groups and laboratories not only in chemistry and biology, but also in promising fields such as biotechnology and environmental science,” Zh. Berdenov said.
The joint project of the two universities from Kazakhstan and China brings together the academic resources of both institutions and creates opportunities to train specialists equipped to address contemporary scientific and industrial challenges.
The competencies acquired by graduates will enable them to pursue professional careers in the chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in biotechnology and innovation. Other promising areas include research, work in analytical and environmental laboratories, expert organizations, and industrial enterprises.
