Open Curatorial Hour: Protection against Threats of Religious Extremism and Terrorism in Kazakhstan

On September 15, 2026, an open curatorial hour was held in the VO-40-3106-24-00 group at the Faculty of International Relations as part of a pedagogical internship. The event, titled "Protection against threats of religious extremism and terrorism in Kazakhstan," was conducted by 2nd-year master's student N.B. Zhaliev under the supervision of R.M. Tashtemkhanova, Professor of the Political Science Department.

The meeting was dedicated to the prevention of religious extremism among youth. During the discussion, religious extremism and terrorism were addressed as some of the most unpredictable phenomena of our time and significant threats to the public and national security of a modern state.

Special attention was paid to the factors threatening national security and key methods of combating them, as well as the basics of legal regulation. In particular, the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Laws "On Countering Extremism" and "On Religious Activity and Religious Associations" were discussed.

The main conclusion shared with the students was that effective protection of Kazakhstan from religious extremism and terrorism should be based not only on suppressing crimes but, above all, on preventing radicalization. This requires quality education, critical thinking, media literacy, social support for youth, cooperation with religious and public organizations, and the continuous improvement of internet prevention mechanisms.
