IPTS ENU Strengthens Cooperation with MBN Research Center within the Horizon Europe PRISMA Project

Representatives of the Institute of Physical and Technical Sciences of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University completed a working visit to Frankfurt am Main, Germany, which took place from June 1 to July 31, 2026, as part of the implementation of the international Horizon Europe Staff Exchanges project PRISMA (“Post-irradiation multiscale dynamics of materials”).

The working visit aimed to develop joint research activities with the MBN Research Center, exchange expertise, gain practical experience in modern computational modeling methods, and discuss future areas of cooperation within the framework of the PRISMA project.

During the visit, representatives of IPTS ENU Kenbayev Daurzhan and Kakimov Askhat, together with Prof. Dr. Andrey V. Solov’yov and Dr. Alexey Verkhovtsev from the MBN Research Center, conducted research using the advanced software packages MBN Explorer and MBN Studio that are being developed by the Center. These software tools are designed for multiscale computational modeling of the structure and dynamics of complex molecular systems.

As part of the joint work, the ENU researchers gained hands-on experience in preparing computational models, conducting molecular dynamics simulations, and analyzing and visualizing the obtained results. The use of MBN Explorer and MBN Studio helped strengthen the practical competencies of IPTS ENU researchers in computational modeling and created a foundation for the further application of these advanced tools and underlying methods in scientific research.

Particular attention was paid to the application of computational modeling methods to current challenges in materials science and radiation physics. Professor Solov’yov and Dr. Verkhovtsev from the MBN Research Center also provided scientific consultations on using the software packages and discussed further directions for joint research with representatives of ENU.

The experience gained during the visit creates additional opportunities for joint research and the preparation of scientific publications, as well as for the wider integration of modern computational methods into the research activities of the Institute of Physical and Technical Sciences of ENU.

Cooperation within the Horizon Europe PRISMA project plays an important role in further integrating Kazakhstan’s science into the international research community, developing the competencies of researchers, master’s and doctoral students, and strengthening the partnerships of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University with leading international research centers.

The Institute of Physical and Technical Sciences of ENU will continue to develop cooperation with the MBN Research Center and other international partners, expanding the University’s participation in joint fundamental and applied research projects.
