Integrity Hour: Anti-Corruption Legislation and Prevention in the Academic Environment

As part of the university’s ongoing efforts to promote academic integrity, ethical responsibility, and legal awareness, an Integrity Hour was held on the topic “Anti-Corruption Legislation and Prevention in Academic Groups.”

The lecture focused on the key principles of anti-corruption policy in the Republic of Kazakhstan and their relevance to the university environment. Particular attention was given to the distinction between corruption-related conduct, conflicts of interest, and violations of academic integrity.

During the session, students discussed the importance of transparency, fairness, responsibility, and respect for established academic procedures. The lecture also addressed practical situations that may arise in university life, including assessment procedures, academic honesty, conflicts of interest, unofficial advantages, and the appropriate use of institutional reporting and appeal mechanisms.

Special emphasis was placed on the role of both students and university staff in creating an academic environment based on trust and professional ethics. Participants were encouraged to follow transparent procedures, respect university regulations, avoid practices that may create unfair advantages, and contribute to a culture of responsible decision-making.

Practical case studies helped students better understand how principles of integrity can be applied in everyday academic situations. The discussion demonstrated that the prevention of misconduct depends not only on legal regulations but also on personal responsibility, institutional transparency, and mutual respect within the university community.

The main goal of the lecture was to increase students’ awareness of anti-corruption principles and academic integrity, strengthen their understanding of ethical and responsible behavior, and encourage respect for fair and transparent academic processes.
