An open lesson was held on the topic "Issues of Separatism, Terrorism, and Extremism in Global Politics and Interstate Relations"

On September 30, 2026, Gulvira Zharylkasynovna Uzakbayeva conducted an open seminar session for the course “International Security” at the Faculty of International Relations of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The session was devoted to the topic “Issues of Separatism, Terrorism, and Extremism in World Politics and Interstate Relations.” It was attended by second-year students enrolled in the 6B03102 – International Relations educational program, group B140-3102-25-07. The academic supervisor was A.A. Turuntaeva, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Acting Associate Professor.
The aim of the session was to examine the concepts of separatism, terrorism, and extremism, explore the causes of their emergence and their impact on interstate relations, and analyze how these phenomena manifest themselves in world politics through specific case studies.
During the session, students were divided into five groups and discussed the characteristics of these phenomena, as well as their interconnections and differences. In addition, using the cases of Catalonia, Kurdistan, Northern Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Karakalpakstan, students examined the causes of conflicts, the actions of the parties involved, forms of struggle, and the responses of the international community. The group work enabled students to combine theoretical knowledge with the analysis of practical situations and to present their conclusions with supporting arguments.
The session focused on expanding students’ knowledge of separatism, terrorism, and extremism, while developing their skills in critically analyzing international political processes, comparing specific cases, and presenting well-reasoned arguments. The main outcome of the open session was to reinforce theoretical knowledge through practical assignments and foster a comprehensive understanding of international security issues.
