
Doctoral Student of the Department of Journalism and Media Arts Conducts an Open Class on Scientific Database Methodology

On October 8, 2026, Aisulu Alkozhaeva, a 2nd-year doctoral student at the Department of Journalism and Media Arts of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, conducted an open class for students of the "7M03211 – International Journalism" educational program. The session, titled "Sources and methods of accessing scientific data," was held as part of her pedagogical practice under the supervision of Professor G.M. Akseyit.
The primary academic objective of the class was to develop students' skills in systematic search, critical evaluation, and effective utilization of scientific information in research. The lesson covered operational algorithms for international scientometric databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science. Furthermore, methods for optimizing search queries using Boolean operators and verifying the quality of scientific papers were demonstrated.
During the practical segment, attendees reinforced their source verification skills by applying the CRAAP methodology. The practical exercises also involved identifying bibliographic metadata and DOI identifiers of academic publications. The department's faculty members attended the session, commending the methodological level of the class and providing relevant academic recommendations.
