Open Lecture: "Protection against the Threats of Religious Extremism and Terrorism in Kazakhstan"

On October 8, 2026, as part of his pedagogical internship at the Faculty of International Relations, 2nd-year master's student N.B. Zhaliev delivered an open lecture to group V040-3106-26-02 titled "Protection against the Threats of Religious Extremism and Terrorism in Kazakhstan," based on the lecture course of Professor G.B. Askeeva.
The pedagogical internship is conducted under the supervision of the Professor of the Department of Political Science, Raikhan Mukhamedzhanovna Tashtemkhanova.
The curatorial hour was dedicated to the prevention of religious extremism among the youth.
During the meeting, issues of religious extremism and terrorism were discussed as one of the most unpredictable phenomena of our time and a dangerous threat to the public and national security of modern states. The problems related to national security threat factors, as well as key methods of combating them, were also covered in detail. Special attention was given to the foundations of legal regulation, which comprise several important normative acts, such as the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Law "On Countering Extremism," and the Law "On Religious Activity and Religious Associations."
As a main conclusion, it was explained to the students that effective protection of Kazakhstan from religious extremism and terrorism must be built not only on the suppression of crimes but, above all, on the prevention of radicalization. This requires quality education, critical thinking, media literacy, social support for the youth, collaboration with religious and public organizations, and the continuous improvement of internet prevention mechanisms.
The curatorial hour was held in an open conversation format; the students showed keen interest and demonstrated their active engagement with the proposed agenda.
