ENU Holds Meeting with Students from Belarus

On the eve of the Republic Day of Kazakhstan, Baubek Somzhurek, Director of the Kazakhstan–Belarus Center for Scientific and Technical Cooperation at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU), met with students from the Republic of Belarus studying at the university.
During the meeting, Baubek Somzhurek spoke about the key milestones in the formation of modern Kazakhstan and the significance of Republic Day as an important national holiday. He also introduced the Center’s main areas of activity and highlighted its role in promoting cooperation between Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Particular attention was given to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding opportunities for cooperation in education and research. Such meetings provide international students with a deeper understanding of Kazakhstan’s history and national traditions while fostering intercultural dialogue and closer ties between young people from the two countries.
ENU currently has 10 students from the Republic of Belarus. They pursue their studies in various academic fields through fee-paying programmes, academic mobility initiatives and grant-funded opportunities.
The largest number of Belarusian students study at the Higher School of Journalism and Social Sciences, which hosts four students. Three students are enrolled at the Faculty of International Relations, two at the Higher School of Economics and Tourism, and one at the Institute of Natural Sciences.
Their fields of study include journalism, public relations, international relations, management, regional studies, ecology and environmental management. This range of disciplines reflects the diverse academic interests of Belarusian students and the opportunities available to them at ENU.
Education remains an important area of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Belarus. Bilateral relations continue to develop through joint initiatives, agreements and memoranda, creating new opportunities for academic exchange and research collaboration. The participation of citizens from both countries in cross-border programmes and initiatives further demonstrates the scope of this partnership.
The decision of Belarusian students to pursue their education in Kazakhstan is a reflection of the longstanding friendship and growing cooperation between the two countries. L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University continues to promote international academic engagement, support students’ professional development and prepare highly qualified specialists for the future.
