Second-Year Master’s Students in Biology Complete Their Pedagogical Internship

Second-Year Master’s Students of the 7M05107 – Biology Educational Programme Completed Their Teaching Practicum
From September 1 to October 24, 2026, second-year Master’s students enrolled in the 7M0517 – Biology educational programme at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University completed their teaching practicum under the supervision of Nurtmukhambetova G.S. The practicum was aimed at developing students’ professional and pedagogical competencies, applying theoretical knowledge in practice, and gaining teaching experience in a higher education environment.
As part of the practicum, each Master’s student was assigned an individual academic supervisor from among the university’s teaching staff and conducted lectures and practical classes in the academic disciplines assigned to them.
The distribution of Master’s students and their respective teaching disciplines was as follows:
* Under the supervision of Nurmukhambetova G.S., Yerimbetova Zhanna conducted classes in Human Anatomy;
* Under the supervision of Dukenbayeva A.D., Akhmetzhan Shұgyla taught Plant Physiology;
* Under the supervision of Suleimenova A.E., Nasredin Aldina and Izbasarova Alina conducted classes in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biochemical Methods, and Methods for Studying Biopolymers;
* Under the supervision of Zhetpisbayev B.A., Gilazhiden Shynar conducted classes in Immunology and Allergology and Human Anatomy;
* Under the supervision of Uzbekov D.E., Amanova Zamira conducted classes in Immunology;
* Under the supervision of Spanbayev A.D., Amankeldiyeva Aigerim conducted online classes in Bioinformatics.
It should be noted that the Master’s students and academic supervisors listed above do not represent the complete list of participants involved in the teaching practicum. Other Master’s students enrolled in the educational programme, as well as members of the university’s academic staff, also participated in the practicum and conducted classes in their assigned disciplines.
During the practicum, Master’s students independently planned and organized lectures and practical classes, developed educational and methodological materials, and applied modern teaching approaches and interactive learning technologies. Particular attention was paid to developing communication skills, presenting academic material effectively, assessing students’ knowledge, and organizing an effective learning process.
In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the Master’s students actively participated in organizing and conducting educational and extracurricular activities for undergraduate students. Several relevant topics were addressed, including “Vaccination”, “International Cooperation to Eliminate Violence Against Women”, “Academic Integrity in Science”, “Responsibilities of a Future Biologist”, and other socially and professionally significant issues.
The main purpose of these activities was to broaden students’ perspectives, strengthen their sense of social responsibility, promote moral values, and develop their professional outlook. For instance, discussions on vaccination contributed to improving students’ scientific and health literacy, encouraging responsible attitudes towards public health, and developing the ability to critically evaluate scientific information. Addressing international cooperation to eliminate violence against women promoted respect for human rights, gender equality, and social responsibility.
Particular attention was also devoted to academic integrity as an essential principle of scientific and educational activities. During these discussions, students explored the principles of ethical research, respect for copyright, the prevention of plagiarism, and personal responsibility for scientific work. Activities dedicated to the responsibilities of a future biologist helped students recognize the importance of their chosen profession, the role of biologists in modern society, and the significance of professional ethics, environmental awareness, and responsible scientific practice.
Thus, educational and extracurricular activities became an important component of the teaching practicum. They contributed not only to the development of students’ professional knowledge but also to the formation of critical thinking, civic awareness, communication skills, social engagement, and ethical values. Such activities play an important role in preparing well-rounded, responsible, and socially conscious future professionals who can apply their knowledge for the benefit of society.
The teaching practicum represented an important stage in the professional development of Master’s students. It provided future educators with an opportunity to become familiar with the educational process in higher education, gain practical teaching experience, improve their pedagogical skills, and strengthen their methodological and communication competencies.
As a result of the practicum, Master’s students successfully integrated their theoretical knowledge with practical teaching experience and developed competencies essential for their future professional careers. The practicum demonstrated the importance of a comprehensive approach to preparing future specialists, combining quality education, scientific development, and the cultivation of socially responsible individuals.
