Researchers from the Department of Physical and Economic Geography Publish a Monograph with Springer Nature
In October 2026, Springer Nature, one of the world's leading academic publishers, released a scientific monograph entitled “Natural Regeneration Dynamics of Forests after Fires in the Kostanay Region.”
The first author is Zhanar Ozgeldinova, PhD, Research Lecturer at the Department of Physical and Economic Geography of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The author team also includes Zharas Berdenov, PhD, Professor and Director of ENU's Institute of Natural Sciences, and Altyn Zhanguzhina, PhD, a researcher at the Department of Physical and Economic Geography. The monograph was co-authored by Zhandos Mukayev from Shakarim University and Meruyert Ulykpanova from Alikhan Bokeikhan University.
The monograph examines the spatial distribution of forest fires in the Kostanay Region, the natural factors contributing to their occurrence, and the processes of natural forest ecosystem regeneration following wildfires.
Drawing on field research conducted between 2023 and 2025, geographic information systems (GIS), and remote sensing data, the authors analyse wildfire distribution patterns, changes in vegetation cover, and natural tree regeneration processes.
Particular attention is given to forest fire resistance, post-fire vegetation dynamics, and methods for assessing and forecasting natural forest recovery. The findings can provide a scientific basis for developing strategies to restore fire-affected forest areas.
The publication of this monograph by Springer Nature contributes to the international dissemination of the department's research findings and strengthens the academic reputation of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
